David began his legal career as a paralegal for a major national law firm in its FIBRE (financial institutions, banking and real estate) division, working on affordable housing and construction lending deals.
During law school, David interned with the Hon. Caesar D. Cirigliano, former attorney in charge of the Legal Aid Society, and solidified his decision to defend people with their life and liberty at stake.
As a litigation associate with Meringolo & Associates, P.C., a boutique firm practicing high-profile criminal defense and civil litigation, David gained invaluable experience defending federal RICO and drug trafficking cases as well as complicated civil matters.
Through The Law Office of David DeStefano, PLLC, David represents a diverse client base spanning from those accused of murder to those launching small businesses. He represents clients through SEC investigations and defends businesses against cases brought under The Americans with Disabilities Act. David was selected by the former Presiding Justice of the Appellate Division, First Judicial Department to serve on the Mayor's Committee on City Marshals in 2015. He was appointed to the committee by Mayor de Blasio and served for seven years.
In 2023, he was selected by The National Trial Lawyers organization as a “Top 100” and “40 Under 40” attorney in New York and was added to the ranks of the Lawyers of Distinction for his work in criminal defense law.
David enjoys camping, driving a manual transmission and sitting in the bleachers at Yankee Stadium.
